The Fire Academy shares a classroom with the Public Safety Department.  It is located in the basement of the Public Safety Building.  This climate controlled classroom accommodates 32 students.. 

 

 

 

 

 

55-62

 

 

55-62 is the Fire Academies training engine.  This donated 1986 E-One pumper is equipped with a 1500 gallon per minute pump and a 1000 gallon water tank.  Primarily used during Firefighter I and II courses it boasts (4) pre-connected 1 3/4" hose lines, (2) 2 1/2" pre-connected hose lines as well as 500 feet of 4" supply line.

 

 

Burn Tower - a

 

In 2002 the Fire Academy opened this 4 story live burn facility.  Originally built with burn rooms of floors 1 and 2 it has been updated with the addition of a 3rd floor burn room.  The 1st and 4th floors contain areas to perform search and rescue operations.  Multiple windows and balconies provide the ability to perform various training scenarios.  It is equipped with a standpipe and sprinkler system providing students the ability to train for high-rise emergencies as well. 

 

Flashover - a

 

 

 

 

In 2003 a Flashover / Fire Behavior simulator was added to the grounds.  This well used facility provides and up close and personal view of what firefighters need to be aware of to prevent being caught in a  deadly flashover.  

 

 

 

  

Natural Gas Simulator

 

In cooperation with Elizabethtown Gas our Natural Gas Center offers a variety of residential and industrial props for our firefighters to learn and practice essential skills when dealing with natural gas emergencies.  We continue to work with Elizabethtown Gas to upgrade this facility. 

 

Tanker Mockup

 

In the late 1990's J.T. Baker Chemical (now Avantor) donated this tank trailer to our Academy.  It is used to train in various hazardous material operations such as application of firefighting foam and leak control evolutions.

 

 

 

 

Roof Simulator

 

 

 

A few years ago our instructors built this roof simulator to provide a much safer environment for firefighters to learn and practice the techniques need to provide vertical ventilation.  This prop offers two separate area to perform various operations.  

 

 

 

 

Maze - a

Maze Building

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Our maze / SCBA confidence center has multiple levels providing a variety of scenarios where firefighters can learn and practice their skills.  Scenarios include disoriented firefighter training, MAYDAY training, through the wall techniques, search techniques, self rescue techniques as well as trapped firefighter rescue techniques.  The layout provides multiple layouts, entries and exit points.

Car Fire Pad

 

 

 Our vehicle fire / extrication pad is capable to accommodating multiple vehicles to train firefighters in the essential skills to combat vehicle fire emergencies, vehicle collision emergencies, and vehicle extrication emergencies.

 

 

 

 

Drill Tower

 

 

 

 

Our former burn tower is still utilized today for fire fighters to train in various evolutions.  Primarily used for ladder raising and climbing skills it is also utilized for forcible entry training, search and rescue, and various other skills.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fire Extinguisher Pad

 

Located next to the lower fire ground drill tower we have a fire extinguisher training area.  Fire extinguisher training is often the first live fire our Firefighter-I recruits experience.  We have utilized this training area with Police, Fire and EMS, and industrial  emergency workers and occasionally for the general public on request.
